They were compromised as they could not do much communication through the race and there were lacking in the data system.
Whatever, the British engineers could manage to recover from the hazard and set the thing fixed. but, it is true that the radio failure had compromised them a little bit certainly. Due to this situation they could not utilize the chance which they got as Ferrari driver Vettel was in a steering issues and facing difficulties driving.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had said after the race that, the radio issue is none but a local hardware issue and it was fixed almost very quickly. They found a crack in the fiber optic cable which was the cause of radio meltdown and which made them crazy and blind for some instances.
He said that their whole communication and data system broke down for a while. He said that for some times they had become blind and they could not communicate with the racers.
Whatever, they somehow managed to recover from it quickly but the penalty it could provide them it had provided before the recovery as there were no communications, no data transfers and no TV feeds and yet the racers had to race blindly. There were some conversations which the racers could hear a little and there were some chats which racers could not hear a single thing. The situation became pretty difficult to handle.
Wolff however praised the drivers as they could keep their nerves strong at the emergency moments and kept driving normally.
He said that the game was a prove of an amazing team play. He further said that there were a lot of people for them at Brackley and in Brixworth who were their redundancy systems whose job is to feed them the massive amount information hey need while at the race.
Whatever, at that time there were more or less 7 persons were trying to contact a Mercedes strategist named James and they were trying to make the right decision. It was really a great team effort he thinks.
Hamilton was suggested over the radio that loss of communication forced the possibility of the timing of the pit-stop not being the ideal timing.
Toto Wolff said after the match that, they could have taken the pit-stop a couple of laps earlier, but it was Hamilton who said that he could have gone much quicker.
