German automobile manufacturer company Porsche who are specialized at manufacturing high performance sports car have decided to end the LMP1 program of FIA World Endurance Championship just after the season ends. Because this German company have announced that they are entering into the Formula E racing championship by the end of this season and they will certainly have to quit F1 in order to get entered into Formula E. Formula E is an automobile racing championship which only uses electric-powered cars.
This German automobiles manufacturer company are following the footsteps of another fellow German manufacturer company Mercedes as they have also announced to make an entry to the Formula E championship. Whatever, Porsche have announced that they will join Formula E at 2019-20 season which will be that championship’s sixth season altogether.
Michael Steiner who is a board member of Porsche company has given a statement that, gaining entry at the formula E racing championship and becoming successful is very logical for them because it matches the outcome of their mission E road car program.
He also said that electric car championship are now becoming very popular among them as it has been growing freedom for in-house technology and development.
He further added that, as they always try to be friendly towards environment they prefer the Formula E championship as it uses electric rather than fuel or gas. So, it has become the ultimate environment for competition and it also have the potential for developing the high performance vehicles that Porsche manufactures in various aspects such as environment friendliness, efficiency and also sustainability.
There were rumors that Porsche were entrusted to pull the plug of the WEC effort. It had become more intense when many key representatives Formula E event which held at the last month in Monaco.
Porsche team boss Andreas Seidl had denied the possibility of an ensuing departure at the primary levels but he has admitted the talk of the departure while he was at the Nurburgring WEC event at the initial stage of this month. he said that time that the team are waiting for a clear decision which will be taken by the board and that will be final. Whatever the decision has already come by this week that Porsche are finally ending their LMP1 program at F1.
The decision of quitting actually follows Audi, which decided to quit Formula1 LMP1 series after the 2016 season. The reason was the same as it wanted to work on the Formula E series.
Porsche vice-president of LMP1 Fritz Enzinger said that, it was a huge challenge to build up the Le Mans team from scratch. He also added that, over all these years they have been successful to develop a successful and professional team.
This will be their basis going forward, he said. He is confident that they will be able to maintain their high level at Formula E as well. He says that their confidence is at high level and they are very much excited to get started at the new championship.
Whatever, Porsche’s exit makes Toyota as the sole manufacturer entry for WEC’s LMP1 class for 2018.
