The new edition of the Copa America 2020 tournament will start from this June 12th and it will continue until 12th July, as the fixture has already been approved and published by FIFA. This year the tournament will be host by Argentina and Colombia which is an event that is happening after the long term. The reason behind the Copa America 2020 is being hosted by two countries was to bring South America soccer to all the fans of the continent.
From the South America Side, there are ten teams, which are Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay, and Ecuador. Australia and Qatar are the two teams that have been invited to play this edition of Copa America from the last two Asian Cup champions.
Copa America, CONMEBOL has constructed an institution of inviting teams from the South American continent to compete in the Copa America. In Copa America 2019 last year, there were also two teams that were invited which were Qatar and Japan. In 2016 Copa America, the invited teams were the USA and Qatar. So it is very normal for CONMEBOL to invite teams from Asia Cup champions to play in this large tournament.
There are Group A and Group B, where all the twelve teams have been divided into six teams for each group. A total of 38 matches will be held according to this new format of Copa America 2020. Every team from each group will have group matches, two quarter-finals, semifinal and final consecutively and each team will be playing 5 matches in the nearest host country.
The grand final of the Copa America 2020 will be host by Colombia at the city of Barranquilla at Estadio Metropolitano; which is the home ground of the national team of Colombia, Atletico junior and Barranquilla. The capacity of the stadium is over 60,000 and it is commonly known as El Metro by local fans and individuals.
Estadio Metropolitano was used when Colombia hosted the 2001 Copa America, though the final on that occasion was held in Estadio El Campin in Bogota. Therefore, this is will a big and famous and worthy ground to host the Grand Final of Copa America 2020, as this ground holds special meaning to the local fans.
