In 2013, on June 27, during the time of 2013 NBA draft, the pelicans choose Nerlens Noel 6th overall, and traded him along with a 2014 ffirst hand pick for All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday of the Philadelphia 76ers and the 42nd pick, Pierre Jackson.

From the University of Oklahoma, the team acquired the 6th position in the 2016 NBA Draft from the draft lottery and selected Buddy Hield.

20th February in 2017, the team Pelicans acquired DeMarcus Cousins in a trade for Sacramento Kings when they replaced Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, a 2017 first-round pick, and a 2017 second-round pick in exchange for Cousins and Omri Casspi.

In 2018, the Pelicans attained Nikola Mirotic in trade with the Chicago Bulls. The team received Mirotc and 2018 second-round pick for the veterans Omer Asik, Tony Allen, and Jameer Nelson. On March 15, 2018, Tom Benson died from complications of the flu. Ownership of the Pelicans and the Saints were transferred to Benson’s widow, Gayle Benson.

In 2019, on June 15th, the Pelicans agreed to trade Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers. On the other hand, the Lakers agreed to transfer Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and three first-round picks, including the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft.

In 2019, on 20th June, the team Pelicans selected Zion Williamson with the first overall pick. The team also drafted Jordan Bone and Alen Smailagic, and both of them were traded to the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors. After that Pelicans then received Nickeil Alexander, Jaxon Hayes and Marcos Louzada Silva from Hawks.
