AS Monaco, Simply incredible! No adjective will be good enough to describe their achievements this season. After 4 years of Paris Saint Germain’s dominance, finally their golden era is over as their rival AS Monaco have sealed the French Ligue 1 title in style. This is their 8th league trophy but they have won it for the very first time after the 1999-2000 campaign. Marseille and Saint Etienne still leading the line with 10 titles each. Leonardo Jardim’s lads equalled Nantes’ 8 league title glory.
What a season the Les Monegasques are having! After having qualified for the UEFA Champions League semi final for the first time, they have now officially win the top tier competition of the French football. After 4 consecutive league glories the team from the France’s capital PSG, will finish the season as the runners up. Looks like they have missed their Swedish super star Zlatan Ibrahimovic a lot who led them to the previous title glories, left the club to join the Red Devils of Manchester United. Their new manager, Unai Emery, the former Sevilla boss has congratulated his counter parts after their victory. Monaco really deserved to win the Ligue 1 as they have been very consistent throughout the season and secured the trophy with 2 matches in hand. They have bagged 89 points from their first 36 league matches.
The Rouges et Blancs hosted Losc Lille in a crucial league match on the Sunday night at the Stade Louis 2. Radamel Falcao opened the scoring on the 6th minute of the game. Thomas Lemar assisted on this occasion. Portuguese midfield warrior Bernardo Silva continued his good form and doubled the lead on the 45th minute with his 11th strike of the campaign. The 22 year old young star has been impressive this season. The first half ended with the 2-0 advantage for the home side.
Radamel Falcao increased the lead on the 69th minute as he got a brace. It was the 30th goal of the season for the 31 years old Colombian star. Lille’s Paraguayan defender Junior Alonso, who is yet to get his maiden goal of the season, scored an own goal on the 88th minute and the hosts got a mammoth 4-0 victory and sealed the title in superb style. Leonardo Jardim as well as the fans will be happy with this achievement. They have also secured a place in the next season’s UCL. The Les Monegasques have proved what they are capable off and we might see another European giant.
