Over the last summer, Chelsea boss Conte kept watching to the Wolfsburg left back Ricardo Rodriguez who is a Swiss international player. But at the last moment of the summer transfer window, Conte bought Marcos Alonso from Serie A giant Fiorentina instead of this Swiss player for £23 million. Now, Conte is remain unimpressed by the performance of the former Real madrid player and forcefully shifted his playing formation to 3 – 4 – 3 since couple of weeks earlier. He is using David Luiz along with Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill in his 3 man backline. But, it is not giving him proper advantage though, they won their last two Premier League matches against the Foxes and Hull City by using this backline but he is still realise that it would not enough. So, he has shifted back his attention to the Wolves defender Ricardo again.
However, Conte made an offer to the Wolves in last summer to land the star defender when the Wolves asked to meet their demand price. In that case, the Blues were also ready to give almost £22 million for his service but that agreement remain unsuccessful.
According to the Italian news portal, the Swiss international would probably move away from the Wolves in next winter and the Blues willing to take that chance. But it seems that Chelsea would have faced competition to sign him because their Premier League rival Manchester United also tracking this defender reportedly.
Besides, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Roma are also reportedly scouting him as well. So, it might get tough for the Blues to bring him at the Stamford Bridge so easily.
Ricardo who is passing his six consecutive Bundesliga seasons since the arriving at the Volkswagen Arena in 13th January, 2012 in exchange for £7.5 million fee reportedly by making four and a half years agreement. He made his debut with them so early when he was just 19 years old against FC Koln. Later on, in October, 2014, he extended his contract with the Wolves which will valid in next 2019. So, he has got still two years contract left with them and he is not in hurry.
Ricardo Rodriguez has started Bundesliga new season with his club and already played seven competitions with the first team and scored one goal so far. He is still a key defender of Switzerland national team where he made international debut in 2011 and made 43 international appearances. He was also announced as the Swiss football player of the year in 2014 due to his brilliant performance.
