The All Reds are currently worried for their number 1 position as both of their goal keepers have failed to impress. Belgian Mignolet was never at his best since the start of the season and even the new signing Loris Karius disappointed as he was not at the top of his form since joining the English giants.
Goal keeping was the woe for the Reds since the start of the season and then they signed from Bundesliga side Mainz 05 for £4.7 million. But the 24 years old German couldn’t prove his worth yet. As he is young and just appeared in 11 games for Liverpool so there is no way near to label him as a flop as even the league’s best keeper David De Gea also had an error ridden start at his Man Utd career but now DDG is very much matured and is one of the best keepers in the planet beyond any doubt.
Karius was dropped at the Goodison Park, Liverpool’s latest clash so far against Everton. Mignolet replaced him and kept a clean sheet but Reds are taking a look at the other options and Klopp’s main targets are supposed to be Hart and Pickford. Sunderland goalie Jordan Pickford has been brilliant this season and the currently loaned out City stopper Joe Hart who is playing for Torino in the Serie-A is another top target for the 5 times UCL champions. Karius has conceded 12 goals so far this season. Pickford & Hart has conceded 24 & 23 goals respectively on this ongoing campaign. The German keeper has got 22 saves beside his name where the Black Cats’ number one has saved 72 times and England’s number one has saved 48 times.Accurate clearances for the trio is 21, 59 & 52 respectively for Karius, Pickford & Hart. The number of the touches of the trio is 401, 683 and 640 respectively. Both the targets have better saves per goal conceded rate than the Liverpool goalie. The Sunderland keeper’s saves per goal conceded rate is 2.17 the best among the 3. Hart’s rate is 1.70 and Karius’ rate is 1.17 so far this season.
Karius is still a young keeper and should be considered as an asset for the Liverpool. He has displayed better performances for the Mainz side and we mustn’t forget those efforts. But Liverpool still can chase their targets as it would surely increase the strength at their number 1 position on the pitch and that will produce a healthy competition among their stoppers. Pickford’s estimated worth is £20 million and Hart might be available for less than £10 million.
