Atletico Madrid, the Spanish giants who are struggling in the league this season to be a competitor for the La Liga title race have got a big victory against Sporting Gijon. The team from the Spanish capital, who will face German side Bayer Leverkusen in their UEFA Champions League 8th Finals’ first leg clash on the upcoming Tuesday night at the Bay Arena, have boosted their confidence with a mammoth victory in the league match. It was also their 3rd league win on a row and they are now unbeaten in the league in their last 8 league matches. The last time Diego Simeone’s side tasted a defeat in the top tier competition of Spanish football, was back in December, a 3-0 downfall against Villarreal, away from the home.
Rojiblancos hosted Los Colchoneros in a Liga BBVA clash at the Estadio El Molinon on the Saturday afternoon. Gijon are a relegation regional club and considering the form of the Atletico, an easy victory was predicted for the visitors and the Mattressers didn’t disappoint their travelling fans.
