Ilmor are in a search for partner for 2021 F1 engine programme

July 30, 2017 by James Lemmy

The boss of Ilmor high performance autosport company wants to produce new engine for the next 2021 Formula 1 engine programme. but they are now seeking a partner for their plan who could possibly sponsor their project.

Ross Brawn who is the new sporting chief of Formula 1 is very much supportive to the independent suppliers and he insists them to come into this sport and he will encourage them. This incentive is supported by constructors teams like Red Bull Racing and McLaren an they also now want to look in the future.

Ilmor

Mario Illien, who was formerly the boss of Mercedes engine who has been iclose to the current modern technologies as he has worked as consultant. He had attended in the meeting which was held recently by FIA where the future engine formats had been discussed.

A twin-turbo V6 with KERS engine had been voted as the most favorite option for the new engine project and also there will be some further studies.

Mario Illien, the current Ilmor autosport boss has said to the media that, there is certainly some desire and possibilities of the independent engine manufacturers to come in and grab the wheel. He also admitted among many reasons, to know whether everything is going to the right way mainly for an independent is a major reason for him to join the FIA meetings.

He said that there will be a lot of commutation and also they have to bear a huge amount of cost so that the engine for the new project sounds well and the cars become fast and sound in the track.

Whatever, about the new entries he had said that the costs should be reduced if F1 wants new and independents invests in F1 which will encourage the newer entries.

He supported his statement by saying that it is a must do thing for the newbies because there is not only the initial costs, but also there are development and maintenance costs are included.

he said that he believes every single one will develop with time and progress forward. But it is very much necessary to make such rules that everyone can develop a lot without costing too much.

He also said that he thinks the engine restrictions per year have forced to increase the engine’s development and maintenance costs.

He thinks it has to be mentioned that having three engines is much more costlier than producing four engines. there is some tests for the engines which are to be used throughout the year and the tests are very expensive. The tests are for making sure that the engines have achieved enough mileage for the year.
He further added that even four engines are not enough he thinks. Look at this season. The season has only reached to its middle point and half of the fields has got problems with their engines.

Whatever, he thinks that they should find a partner as soon as possible to sponsor them to the 2021 Formula 1 engines project so that both of them develop.
