What do you expect from a footballer aging 39? Certainly not so much but when the name is Gianluigi Buffon, you know it’s special. He turned 39 in the last January but is still one of the best goal keepers in the world. He continues to amaze the football world with his brilliant and stunning saves and athleticism. The 2006 FIFA World Cup winner with Italy is now on the edge of another title that he has never kissed in his entire life. The name of that desired title is UEFA Champions League trophy.
The Italian skipper has won too many trophies in his colorific career. The Carrara born stopper has won 7 Serie-A titles, 3 Italian Cup trophies, 6 Italian Super Cup trophies, 1 UEFA Cup trophy along with a FIFA World Cup. But he has never won the UCL trophy in his career so far. Although he had been very much close to win it but ended up being a runner up in the 2014-15 as Spanish giant Barcelona got the better of the Zebras on that occasion with strikes of Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez and Neymar. Buffon is at the ending part of his career and won’t get too many chances to grab that desiring title. So it’s probably going to be his last chance to kiss the UCL trophy.
Juventus have successfully reached the final stage of the competition by beating French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco with 4-1 margin on aggregate. After a Gonzalo Higuain heroic in the first leg match at the Stade Louis 2, where the Argentine sensation scored a brace the Serie-A champions got a 2-1 victory in the 2nd leg at home thanks to goals of Croatian attacker Mario Mandzukic and Brazilian full back Dani Alves. French young sensation Kylian Mbappe who has been the best emerging attacker of the season, managed to find net for the Les Monegasques.
Buffon is one of the best goal keepers in the history and has been a great ambassador for the game with his loving and respectful attitudes which have made him too much popular around the globe. So the fingers will be crossed for the legend so that the world class keeper can finally reach his destination. The Bianconeris will take on Spanish giant and the defending champions Real Madrid in the final of the cup competition at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Buffon and his diehard fans will hope and expect that the 2015 final won’t return on this occasion.
