Serie-A produced a breathtaking thriller on the Sunday night. On the gameweek 17, mid table club Genoa faced Palermo who are at the bottom 3 of the table. But a 7 goals thriller stunned the fans as late dramas resulted into a shocking win for the visitors.
At the Luigi Ferraris, Genoa hosted Palermo. It was much expected that the home side will get an easy victory as the visitors lost 9 consecutive league matches before that game and the home side had a balanced team who recently beat Fiorentina at the home.
The hosts got a flying start as they got the lead on the 4th minute of the game. 21 years old Giovanni Simeone opened the scoring inside opening 4 minutes as Luca Rigoni assisted. Palermo levelled the line on the 42nd minute when Robin quaison netted. Ilija Nestorovski provided the assist. The first half finished 1-1.
Simeone scored the 2nd goal for Genoa on the 57th minute of the game. It was also the 21 years old’s 7th goal of the season so far. Nikola Ninkovic netted on the 65th minute and it seemed that the visitors was almost tasting their 10th consecutive league defeat. But football is a game of uncertainty and it proved once again on the Sunday night. Palermo scored their 2nd goal on the 69th minute as Edoardo Goldaniga scored. The game was heading towards a Genoa win as the scoreline was 3-2 till the 87th minute, with less than 3 minutes to go of the normal time in the watch. Andrea Rispoli levelled the line on the 88th minute and the scoreline was 3-3. Super sub Aleksandar Trajkovski replaced Thiago Cionek on the 80th minute and scored the most important goal at the very end of the game and the host fans couldn’t believe their eyes as their team went 3-1 to 3-4 and beacme witness of an absolute shocker. Palermo somehow managed to get an unbelievable win which was hard to digest for Ivan Juric’s men. The things went bad to worse when Genoa keeper Mattia Perin was shown a red card by referee Luca Pairetto on the added minutes of the second half of the match.
Ivan Juric’s men are currently at the 12th position in the Serie-A table with 23 points from the first 17 games. Eugenio Corini’s team needed this win after 9 consecutive downfalls and they are in the 18th position with only 9 points beside their name. But the game was a great one for the spectators and will be one of the best matches of the season.
