Sevilla side has been sensational in the La Liga this season. They have been superb and consistent in the top tier league of Spain under Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli. They are in the top region of the Liga BBVA point ladder from the very beginning of the season. The current UEFA Europa League holders have impressed the fans and the general spectators, even more than expectations. They are fighting for the league titles with the giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona in this ongoing campaign and have outclassed Atletico Madrid so far. They have tasted just 4 defeats so far this season after the first 20 league outings.
Before visiting RCDE Stadium, Sampaoli’s lads had snatched a crucial victory against Osasuna in a 7 goals thriller and they toured Espanyol’s home ground aiming for another victory but some serious football display of Quique Flores’ lads have stopped the winning run of the Los Rojiblancos.
Espanyol started very quickly as they produced a pacey attack at the very beginning of the game and while Pablo Piatti was running with great pace through to the Sevilla Box, Argentine defender Nicolas Pareja stopped him illegally and with no one having seen that coming the ref sent off the 32 years old centre half and the visitors were forced to play with only 10 men for the more than 88 minutes and the ref also blown his whistle for a penalty. Midfielder Jose Antonio Reyes made no mistake to convert it into the first goal of the game. The 33 years old completely beat his former team mate Sergio Rico with a successful spot kick to the right bottom corner. It is the 3rd strike of the season for the Spaniard and this time he netted against his former side.
In form striker Stevan Jovetic levelled the line on the 20th minute as he scored his 3rd goal of the campaign for Sevilla. The assist was provided by his former Man City team mate Samir Nasri. Spanish defender Marc Navarro’s header during the closing minutes of the first half gave his team a 2-1 lead at the end of the opening half.
Gerard Moreno had missed a couple of opportunities earlier in the match but he shouldn’t have any regret as the header machine scored on the 71st minute to seal the victory for his team. It was the 8th goal of the season for the 24 years old star.
Sampaoli’s side is currently sitting at the 3rd position with 42 points from the first 20 league games and Espanyol are at the 9th position with 29 points from the same number of games.
