Wayne Mark Rooney, the United skipper who was born to make records has reached another milestone. The 31 years old is certainly one of the best strikers in Man Utd’s history. In a lunch time FA Cup clash against Championship side Reading on Saturday Rooney leveled Sir Bobby Charlton’s record to become the all time goal scorer ever for Manchester United. Both of them have scored 249 goals each for the Red Devils.
This is not the very first time that Rooney had levelled or surpassed the United legend’s record. Before this, the former Everton striker had surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton to become the all time top scorer for England national football team, back in 2015. The records will sum up how bright United skipper’s career has been as levelling someone like Sir Charlton is a dream for many footballers.
Rooney also has taken 215 match less than Sir Charlton to level him. Sir Charlton scored 249 goals for the Old Trafford based club in 758 matches where the 31 years old has done it only in his 543rd game for the Red Devils. Another legend Denis Law is at the 3rd position in the list with 237 goals from 404 matches. George Best is at the 6th position with 179 goals in 470 matches.
The most successful club in the premier league’s history, Manchester United squared off with championship club Reading at the Old Trafford on the Saturday. The current FA Cup holders’ season kicked off with an easy victory. Club skipper opened the scoring only on the 7th minute of the game. It was the 4th goal of the season for the England international. Juan Mata provided the assist. French forward Anthony Martial doubled the lead on the 15th minute with Rooney once again directly involved with the goal as he assisted on this occasion. With this victory United has now secured a place in the 4th round of the FA Cup. Their fans will be happy with the recent performances as they are looking to defend their FA Cup title this season. Rooney will be now looking forward to surpass Sir Charlton’s record to set himself as the only top scorer in the United’s history.
