One of the most perfect strikers of the modern time, Zlatan Ibrahimovic makes his first appearance of the season as he made a comeback after a long term injury set back. The Swedish legend sat out a long time in the bench as he was out since the latest part of the last season. United fans were eagerly waiting for the returning of their super star and finally their waiting has come to an end on the Saturday night.
The veteran front man hasn’t appeared since his injury which he had suffered against Belgian side Anderlecht during his club’s UEFA Europa League game in the last April. The ligament injury kept him out of the days for more than 200 days and he had missed more than 30 games for the Red Devils during this long period. The former Barcelona striker who turned 36 last month, missed the UEFA Europa League final of the last season. He hasn’t featured in any EPL game this season before the New Castle clash and is yet to make his comeback in the UEFA Champions League.
It is almost impossible to fill the shoe of a player like Zlatan’s caliber and the United fans and manager missed him a lot for sure. They applauded and welcomed their new number 10 shirt holders who will now be wearing the iconic shirt of the Red Devils after the departure of Wayne Rooney who has joined Everton earlier this season. The former AC Milan forward gets a warm welcome when he replaced goal scorer Anthony Martial on the 77th minute to make his seasonal debut and his team mates just couldn’t gift a better occasion as they destroyed New Castle United and gave him an occasion to remember.
But it wasn’t an ideal start for the hosts as they conceded an early goal. Dwight Gayle came heavy on the hosts by scoring an early day opener just on the 14th minute. ‘Tony Martial equalized 8 minutes before the break and the score line could be leveled during the break but United displayed super pieces of football and took the lead with an injury time goal, courtesy of Centre half hris Smalling. Another comeback star Paul Pogba showed why he was missed so much during his absentee by scoring the 3rd goal of the night for the hosts. Finally Romelu Lukaku struck the last nail into the New Castle’s coffin. Man Utd will face Basel in their next match in the UCL.
