The Royal Rumble is a very popular pay-per-view event produced by WWE. It was created by pat Patterson and is one of the big four PPVs of WWE along with Wrestle Mania, Survivor Series and Summer Slam. It is also probably the second most popular and viewed event of WWE, just after the first placed Wrestle Mania.

The inaugural edition of the show took place on the January 24, 1988 at the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario. Since then the show has been arranged every year and the viewers wait eagerly for the month of January to watch this highly popular show. The program has taken place 31 times so far since it’s debut and the 32nd edition is just on it’s way. Since the 17th edition, the event has been scheduled in the very last week of the January. The latest edition of the event (31st) was hosted by Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Shinsuke Nakamura and Asuka had the last laugh on that occasion in the men’s and women’s main events respectively. The upcoming edition (32nd) will be hosted by Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. Although this PPV consists of title matches and other various matches, the main event of this program is mainly a 30 man royal rumble match. But in the 24th edition, which took place on January 30, 2011 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, there was a 40 man royal rumble match and it was won by Mexican superstar Alberto Del Rio.
