Unforgiven was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by WWE. The show made the debut on April 26, 1998 and since then it has been arranged every year until 2008 by the World Wrestling Entertainment authority. Although in the debut year the show was held in the month of April but from the very next year the show was scheduled to take place on every September and thus occupied the September month slot of the WWE PPV schedule. The show actually started as an “In Your House” event and featured the Inferno Match between The Undertaker and Kane. The event took place 11 times and after the 11th and the very last edition in 2008, the program was replaced by the Breaking Point in 2009.

The Greensboro Coliseum Complex of Greensboro, North Carolina got the privilege to host the inaugural edition of the show. In the main event of that show, Stone Cold Steve Austin squared off with Dude Love for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. The very next edition of the show was hosted by another North Carolina based venue Charlotte Coliseum. First Union Center of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was the venue for the very first WWE Unforgiven of the 21st century which was held on September 24, 2000. The 11th and so far the latest edition of the program took place on September 7, 2008 and Quicken Loans Arena of Cleveland, Ohio hosted the event. More than 8,700 fans went to attend the show on this occasion. A vacant World Heavyweight Championship was on the card and the likes of Chris Jericho, Batista, Kane, John “Bradshaw” Layfield and Rey Mysterio faced each other in a Championship Scramble match. Y2J Chris Jericho had the last laugh as the Canadian beat his other counterparts to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
